The Soft Machine is a well-known tuna lure on the US Atlantic coast, where it produces excellent results on bigeye, yellowfin and bluefin tuna, but no one is surprised when a marlin climbs on it either.

A 13 straight-runner without a lot of built-in action, this lame duck often gets smacked hard when run well back behind the rest of the lure spread, try running it off the shotgun rigger or the long rigger. Its thin, tapered head means it can also handle a bit of pace with minimum drag, and some additional boat speed will see it start to pop and smoke like a regular lure.
