Designed to take shock of casting a heavy leader or spod long distances and prevent crack-offs from occurring. As the name suggests the leader is tapered so the line gradually becomes thicker as you wind it onto the spool. This taper allows you to use a thick shock leader but only have a small knot attaching it to main line which aids the distances you can achieve.
